USB-C and Thunderbolt gear confirmed for ROG Ally

Like Steam Deck, ROG Ally drives external video and charging through a single USB-C port — but Armory Crate adds its own wrinkle on top: some chargers and power banks that meet spec on paper still aren't recognized as valid fast-charge sources.

The Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K) is confirmed to reliably trigger the Ally's 30W Turbo mode — Armory Crate specifically recognizes it as a valid 65W+ adapter, which isn't guaranteed for every high-wattage power bank that claims compatible output.

VRR support isn't universal just because the video signal works. Several confirmed monitors match the Ally's native 120Hz FreeSync Premium panel closely, but the ViewSonic ELITE XG321UG shows a clean picture with zero VRR at all — its G-Sync Ultimate module has no FreeSync support, and the two standards aren't interchangeable.

The Ally has only one USB-C port, so whatever occupies it for video can't also charge it. A community report on the Wacom Movink 13 display confirms exactly that tradeoff in practice, not just in theory.
